2 ejected, killed after motorcycle hits farm tractor

BAY COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A motorcyclist and his passenger were killed when their motorcycle struck the back of a farm tractor Monday night in Bay County.

The crash occurred at about 8:15 p.m. on M-61 in Gibson Township, about 120 miles from Detroit.

Michigan State police say 26-year-old Kevin Hatfield of Bentley and 20-year-old Shilo Runberg of Bay City were killed in the crash.

According to police, Hatfield was traveling east on M-61 near Carter Road when he attempted to pass a farm tractor. Witnesses at the scene told police the motorcycle crashed into the rear wheel of the tractor, ejecting both Hatfield and Runberg.

Police said neither occupant of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet. Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.

The driver of the tractor was not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
