The son of a 62-year-old Vietnam veteran says his father was shot to death while pushing a granddaughter to safety as she took iPad photos of four men who had robbed the girl's west side Detroit home.
Michael Villneff tells The Associated Press Thursday that John Villneff was shot in the back and chest outside his house.
Michael Villneff says his father called him about 11 p.m. Wednesday saying he'd "been shot" and was "dying."
Police are investigating the slaying.
Villneff says the four men entered his sister's home through an unlocked door, beat his 16-year-old nephew and took video game systems and other items. One of the teen's sisters alerted her grandfather who lived next door.
John Villneff confronted the men as they were leaving the house.
