Flooding to keep Saginaw County road closed, possibly for weeks

Posted: Updated:

If you want to drive on Gary road near Chesaning you won't get very far.

The roadway between Sharon and Corunna roads remains closed after Friday's heavy rains, and it may stay that way for weeks -- or longer!

The rain washed out an area next to the road about 30 feet wide, 10 feet deep and 100 feet long.

Brian Wendling, director of the Saginaw County Road Commission, says fixing the washout won't take long but that it will take time to study the foundation of the bridge near Corunna Road.

Gary is one of two Saginaw County roads that remain closed.

Fergus is closed between Carr and M-52 because of a failed culvert.

Wendling says a temporary fix will allow Fergus to open around noon tomorrow.
