Motorcyclist dies after car runs stop sign

TUSCOLA COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Deputies in Tuscola County say a 53-year-old woman on a motorcycle was struck and killed after a vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign.

It happened just before 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Saginaw Road and Washburn Road in Vassar Township. 

Tuscola County Sheriff's deputies say a 53-year-old Emmett woman was following her husband westbound on Saginaw Road on separate motorcycles. 

The woman's husband made it through the intersection, but she was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Washburn Road.

The woman was transported to Caro Community Hospital by ambulance, where she died of her injuries. 

Deputies said a 24-year-old Oxford woman was the at-fault driver. According to a news release, she failed to stop for a stop sign, striking the motorcycle operator. 

The Oxford woman was with her fiancé and two children, who were not injured. 

The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Deputies were assisted by the Vassar Police Department, Vassar Fire Department, MMR & Lifenet.
