SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

New video shows exactly what happened before a homeless man was shot and killed by Saginaw police.

A witness who TV5 has spoken to in the past captured the video on a cell phone and there's still no word from authorities on whether the shooting was justifiable.

CNN paid for access to a new dramatic video that could hold the key to the Milton Hall investigation.

The video shows the scene at Saginaw's Riverview Plaza on the afternoon of July 1.

Looking closely at the video, police can be seen surrounding Hall with their guns drawn. Hall reportedly had a knife in his hand and if one listens closely, you can hear a female police officer order Hall to put down the knife.

The emotionally distraught Hall refuses and appears to move slowly to the left. The video doesn't show all of Hall's movements, but sources tell TV5 he moved in the direction of an officer and a K-9 unit.

It was then that the six police officers opened fired on Hall, striking him about 10 times. TV5 has been told that the rough total of rounds fired at Hall is about 46.

On Friday, community activists continued to demand answers related to the police action that day, and answers related to the pace and transparency of the investigation. About 100 people, including 30 pastors, put their arms together to pray for Hall.

TV5 attempted to talk to Saginaw County Prosecutor Mike Thomas about the probe's progress only to be told he was out of the office on Friday and that state police are still conducting their investigation into the shooting.

Here's a look at the timeline of this case:

  • The shooting happened July 1 at the Riverview Plaza shopping center.
  • Two days later, six Saginaw officers were placed on paid administrative leave. State police were then handed the investigation.
  • In late July, we learned the Michigan attorney general is also interviewing witnesses.
  • On August 3, the six officers involved in the shooting were put on "desk duty" at the Saginaw Police Department even though the investigation is still ongoing.

In the meantime, there have been at least a half dozen town hall meetings to talk about the shooting and the investigation. Now, nearly seven weeks later, there is still no ruling on whether the shooting was justifiable.
