
The Great Lakes Loons took the lead with a run in the top of the ninth inning against West Michigan, only to have the White Caps score two in the bottom of the ninth in a 6-5 victory Tuesday.
White Cap right fielder Jeff McVaney connected on a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to send West Michigan to their second straight win.
Duke Von Schamman (3-4, 3.44 ERA) started for the Loons, giving up three earned runs in five innings of work.
Matt Shelton (2-5, 2.61 ERA) suffered the loss for the Loons as he surrendered the ninth inning blast.
With the loss, the Loons are now 24-33, last place in the Midwest League's Eastern Division.
Great Lakes now returns home for a seven-game homestand Wednesday as they'll host the Lansing Lugnuts in the first of three games.
Wednesday's game is a Detroit Red Wings Legend Series game with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
