BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

A bridge malfunction in Bay City left passengers stranded on the Appledore schooner for more than five hours Tuesday.

According to the Bay City Times, an electrical problem kept the Independence Bridge from opening to let the boat go through.

The tour included a trip down the Saginaw River and into the Saginaw Bay. The Appledore was scheduled to make its way back to Wenonah Park in Bay City to dock, but the Independence Bridge couldn't open.

Heavily restricted docks along the Saginaw River and low water levels made docking the Appledore difficult, captain David Leanze told the paper.

The passengers, a group of seniors from the Commission on Aging in Port Huron, were eventually let off at Wirt Stone Dock in Essexville, according to the report.

The electrical problem is the latest round of troubles to plague the Independence Bridge.

TV5's Liz Gelardi will be Asking the Tough Questions to find out what engineers and consultants are doing to trouble shoot the drawbridge's recent problems.
