SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -
Hundreds of people in Saginaw lined up as early as 5 a.m. this past Monday, hoping to get assistance with their utility bills.
More than 500 people were able to get help with their utility bills, through the Heat and Warmth Fund, or THAW.
Residents had to have shut off notices or their services already cut off, in order to get assistance up to $4,000.
It was held at the Saginaw community action agency on Perkins Street on Monday.
It was supposed to be from noon to five, but people started lining up as early as 5 a.m., so by the time the doors opened, THAW had already met the number they planned to provide assistance to.
Each person was given a number and waited till it was called, some waited for hours.
Those who did receive help, say they were grateful, it didn't matter how long it took.
"I came down at 8 this morning, I left, went to a funeral, and came back and I'm still her, but by the grace of God, I thank God for these people, that's willing to help us," said Karen Perkins
THAW is partnering with Fifth Third Bank to help people in Flint, next Tuesday, Aug. 28.
