WNEM TV5 has learned police in Saginaw are on the scene of a shooting and we can also confirm one person has died at the scene.
The shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at a home in the 1400 block of Dillon Street, on Saginaw's southeast side, between Norman Street and Washington Ave.
No further information was available, but a TV5 crew at the scene said a 21-year-old African-American man was shot while riding his bicycle and ran into his grandmother's home, where he later died from his injuries.
"When [officers] arrived, they found one individual in the house who appeared to have been shot at least once. Investigators are on the scene. It's too early in the investigation to know if this is tied to anything that's been going on or not, or if this is isolated," said Saginaw Police Detective Sgt. Brent VanderHaar.
"Anybody who wants to come forward and tell us what happened, that would be fantastic," said VanderHaar. Anyone with information is asked to contact authorities at 989-759-1598.
Saginaw has been plagued by dozens of shootings over the past six months, with at least 16 homicides so far in 2012. Last year, Saginaw had a total of 12 homicides.
