SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

A double shooting on Saginaw's northeast side ends with a 6-year-old dead and a 36-year-old man recovering from gunshot wounds.

Police were called out to the 1100 block of Essling Street at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

When police arrived they found the man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to the nearly hospital and is being treated. He was last listed in serious condition.

Police say the girl, who TV5 has identified as Layla Jones, was also struck by the gunfire. She was taken to a local hospital where she later died. She was in town visiting from Wisconsin.

Police have not released the man's name.

The shooting is just blocks away from where gunfire killed a 21-year-old man in the 1400 block of Dillon earlier in the day. That shooting occurred just after 1:30 p.m.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Saginaw Police at 989-759-1598.
