A few weeks ago, a news report by The Daily Caller claims that emails show the U.S. Treasury Department was the main instigator behind the termination of 20,000 salaried retiree pensions at Delphi.

Delphi filed for bankruptcy protection in October 2005. Delphi terminated the pension plans in 2009, forcing the pension insurer owned by the federal government to assume responsibility of $6.7 billion in pension liability for 70,000 Delphi retirees. at that time, retirees stood to lose up to 70 percent of their pension.
