Duo charged with racketeering from local business

BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

Two local men are facing felony charges after authorities said they took truck parts from their employer and sold them over the internet.

On Sept. 6, a three count felony warrant was signed charging a 32-year-old Freeland man and a 33-year-old Reese man with two felony counts of embezzlement and one count criminal enterprising.

Investigators concluded a four-month long probe into the activities of the two former employees of Cummins Bridgeway, 722 S. Outer in Buena Vista Township.

The evidence in the case revealed the two established a side business as a front to sell Cummins' distinctive brand diesel parts over the internet. The proceeds of the embezzled brand parts are estimated at just below $100,000.

Company executives learned about the activity after receiving a tip that their products were showing up for sale on eBay. After conducting an internal investigation, company officials terminated both employees who had been with the company for more than 10 years each.

The case was then turned over to the Buena Vista police detectives who in turn obtained statements, executed search warrants and analyzed financial data that supported the allegations.

It's unknown if either man has been arrested. Authorities have not released their names.
