Obama supporters meet to watch the president accept nomination

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Genesee County residents who met at the Obama Headquarters in Genesee County chanted "four more years" after the president finished his speech at the Democratic National Convention Thursday night.

About 100 men and women who couldn't make it to Charlotte gathered to watch Vice President Joe Biden and President Barack Obama accept the Democratic nomination and address the nation on national television.

"As President Clinton said last night, no president in the history of our country could have accomplished what he accomplished in the last four years. President Obama is on the right road, taking us down the right path and he does need four more years to get there," said Jacque Johnson, an Obama supporter.

Several people who came together Thursday wore T-shirts and hats supporting Obama. Some even took some time to celebrate their contributions and work to the Democratic campaign.

"I'm the wife of a retired UAW worker, and my husband actually retired in 2009, and because of what the president did, it afforded us to go on with our pension and allow the companies to stay open and now GM is No. 1," said Jennifer Alexander, who has volunteered for the Obama campaign.

Others, like Bob Johnson, believe in the Affordable Care Act and want to see this move forward. He's a former teacher but had to retired after a stroke back in 2005.

"The Affordable Care Act allows me to not end my quality of life because of the caps that are usually included with an insurance company," Johnson said.

And as Obama wrapped up his speech, several of his supporters said they believe he has what it takes to move the country forward.

"We've had to claw for everything with this Congress and they've already made it very clear it's going to be the same thing for four more years, but we're up to the task," said Janice Mosley, an Obama supporter.
