GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A local cold case dating back nearly 20 years has been cracked.

Around 11 a.m. Thursday morning, Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton announced charges will be filed against a man in connection with a homicide that took place in November of 1993.

The victim, 19-year-old Wanda Musk, a Mott Community College student, was killed after being taken from her job at a convenience store in Genesee Township. Her body was later found in a field on Vassar Road.

Leyton said Matthew Loren Alder, 42, will be charged with first-degree murder in connection to Musk's death. He is currently serving time for a different first-degree murder conviction.

Leyton says after the case became active again when state officials matched DNA from a convicted felon to DNA from the crime scene in January of this year.

Alder will be arraigned on the murder charges next week.
