Bikes on the Bricks returns to Flint

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

You can already hear them coming. "Bikes on the Bricks" is taking over downtown Flint.

"A lot of people put a lot into their cars and their homes, and this is my toy," said Bob Muschiana, a member of the event's planning committee.

A toy... that's about 950 pounds of steel. Thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts will be showing off their "toys" and their skills this weekend. Thousands more will just come to watch.

"This show isn't about one kind of motorcycle, or one business, it's just about love of riding motorcycles and camaraderie and the friends you make while you're doing that," said Chris Everson who's also on the Bikes on the Bricks planning committee.

These bikes won't just be on the bricks this weekend. Saturday, there's a 54-mile ride around mid-Michigan and if you hear them coming you might want to get out of the way. "You don't put your feet down. Once you get up and rolling, you roll through all the stops signs. You roll through all the traffic lights and it's really fun," said Bob Muschiana.

Over 50 police officers also riding motorcycles will lead the pack of around 1,000 motorcycles. They say it's is a sight to see.

"And to hear it. You'll hear it off the buildings reverberating. It takes your breath away," said Muschiana. "It just gets everything in you going. It makes your heart rattle right before the ride takes off all the bikes are revving up their engines you and just feel it all in your chest. It's so awesome," said Melissa Kipfer, one of the volunteers for the event.

The entire weekend is put on by volunteers with a passion for the powerful machines and the open road. Even if you don't have an "iron horse" of your own, organizers say the event has something for everyone. "We'll have stunt shows, tattoo contests, all sorts of stuff happening," said Chris Everson.

But there's no secret who or what will be the center of attention. It's all about the bikes.

TV5 is a proud sponsor of Bikes on the Bricks.
