BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

A community is remembering a beloved teacher who passed away.

Pete Karoly taught in the Bay City Public Schools system for 21 years and was a former newspaper reporter.

The Bay City Times reports that Karoly worked at Bay City Central High School as an English teacher and coached boys soccer for eight years.

His wife found him unresponsive at his home in Essexville.

Classes at Bay City Central are canceled, but the school remains open with grief counselors on hand.

During Friday's varsity football game, there will be a dedication to him.

A memorial service is also scheduled to take place at the high school Saturday at 1 p.m.

Karoly was 58.
