School district dismisses students early due to power outage

GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Swartz Creek Community Schools tell TV5 that a power outage forced them to dismiss students early on Friday.

Officials said the high school and middle school dismissed students at 11:15 a.m., with the elementary schools dismissing students at 12:30 p.m.

The Swartz Creek Senior Center is also closed due to the outage.

Consumers Energy tells TV5 that power went down to about 500 customers between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. when a 46,000 kilovolt line burned. That affected the Swartz Creek, Lennon and Bishop substations and service areas.

Since that time, Consumers said they have restored power to 300 customers. They say power should be restored to the remaining 200 sometime this afternoon "or later."
