The widow of a slain Detroit-area police officer has expressed her appreciation to hundreds of mourners who attended his funeral in Fenton.
Police officers from Michigan and elsewhere were at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church. Patrick O'Rourke was fatally shot last Sunday while responding to a 911 call in West Bloomfield Township in Oakland County.
Township Police Chief Michael Patton says O'Rourke had "strength and confidence." He says the fallen officer treated everyone with respect, even people who probably didn't deserve it.
The 39-year-old O'Rourke was married with four children. His widow, Amy O'Rourke, encouraged the congregation to tell her children what they know about her late husband.
Wayne County sheriff's officers turned on their lights and sirens for 15 seconds in memory of O'Rourke.
