Saginaw police called to scene of 'suspicious death'

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Saginaw police have been called to the scene of a suspicious death in the 1100 block of Essling, on the city's east side.

WNEM TV5's Bill Walsh reports that authorities were called around 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Police Det. Sgt. Joe Dutoi said an African American man in his mid-20s was found dead.

Walsh reported that the man's cause of death was a gunshot wound. While at the scene, Walsh said police were interviewing the man's girlfriend, but police stressed that she is not a suspect at this time.

The deceased man was found just two doors down from the house where 6-year-old Layla Jones was killed in a drive-by shooting in August. Police told Walsh that there's no evidence the two incidents are related.
