Nexteer pink slips 70 workers

BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

Nexteer has announced that it is laying off about 70 salaried workers. They will be out of a job by the end of the month. All of the laid-off employees work at the Buena Vista Township location.  Nexteer says the cuts will help them stay competitive in a global economy.

Here is the full statement from Luis Canales, director, global external affairs, Nexteer Automotive:

"Nexteer has, and continues to make great strides in becoming a leading global supplier. Over the past several years, the company has restructured its operations, booked record customer bookings and established itself as a standalone company. However, continued success in the automotive industry is based on the global markets and given the turbulent economic times in other regions, we must be proactive on managing costs.

Nexteer will be laying off approximately 70 salaried U.S. positions, effective at the end of September. These employment reductions are one of many actions we are taking globally to ensure the long-term success of the company and its ability to fund future growth and withstand the challenges of the industry and global economy."
