Police hope surveillance video will lead them to wheel thieves

HEMLOCK, MI (WNEM) -

The public is still being asked to be on the lookout after thieves hit a local car dealership nearly two weeks ago -- and now the crime spree seems to be continuing at other dealerships.

Auto dealerships across the state are reporting similar crimes that have similar details to the robberies in Mid-Michigan. Investigators with Saginaw County Sheriff's Department said a series of rim and tire thefts could be related.

Detectives think new surveillance video could lead them to the suspects. Rick Ford in Hemlock was hit nearly two weeks ago. The bandits removed wheels from six new cars and stole a van.

"It takes guts cause there's constant traffic going through and you have a well lit lot," said Matt Rick, operations manager for Rick Ford.

Investigators said thieves hit dealers in West Branch, Cadillac and Gaylord.

Rick said he worries more dealerships could be hit until officers make an arrest. He hopes the video will help the sheriff's department catch the suspects.

"That would be great because it would help everybody, not just us because it will just keep going until someone catches them because they've gotten away with it so far," said Rick.

Police believe the suspects could be driving a newer model burgundy Dodge Magnum four-door station wagon.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff's department at 989-790-5456.
