Officer cleared in shooting of family pet

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan police officer will not be charged in connection to killing a family's dog.

The incident sparked protest in St. Louis,Michigan.

Gratiot County Prosecutor Keith Kushion say he did not find any legal basis to charge Officer Matt Vanhall with a crime.

Vanhall says he shot the golden retriever in self defense back on September 9th.

The Michigan State Police and Alma Police both investigated the case.
