2 more deaths bring Michigan West Nile total to 10

Posted: Updated:

The Michigan Department of Community Health says two more state residents have died after contracting West Nile virus.

The 73-year-old man from Wayne County and 86-year-old man from Macomb County are the ninth and 10th human fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Michigan this year.

Last week, a 65-year-old Ogemaw County man died as a result of the virus.

As of Tuesday, health officials say 170 West Nile cases have been reported statewide. There were 34 cases and two deaths in 2011.

At least 1,630 serious illnesses and 134 deaths from West Nile have been reported nationwide.
