Bishop Joseph Cistone with followers.
SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -
Dozens of people joined Bishop Joseph Cistone outside an abortion clinic in Saginaw Township on Wednesday to discuss the issue of abortion and pray.
"We're not here to be aggressive, or antagonistic. We believe in the power of God so we are interceding that God will do his work among our people," commented Cistone, who is from the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw.
It's all part of "40 days for life," the national campaign bringing people together to pray and fast now through Nov. 4 in hopes God will change hearts.
"That there would be an end to abortion and we would have a deeper respect for life at all its stages from conception to natural death," commented the Bishop Cistone.
"Hearts of our legislature, the hearts of the people who feel motivated to seek an abortion," Cistone said.
While some question whether the presence of prayer is effective, participants say there used to be two abortion clinics in the building. Now there's just one.
"Our people are like dogs with a bone. They keep coming and keep praying and they're destroying their business and they're here to make money and when it starts to tap into the profit I just don't think they can stay open any longer," said Sandy Buza, a member of the Catholic Diocese and Respect Life Coordinator.
Some hoping to end abortion come to the clinic year round. They say those seeking an abortion sometimes change their minds thanks to their presence and prayers.
"There was two saves yesterday. Do you get them every day, no. But, it's God's little way of telling us keep doing this. It's making a difference," participant Kenneth Lancaster said.
Those participating in the campaign will be praying and fasting for the cause from now until Nov. fourth. TV5 put in calls to the Women's Health Center to get their reaction to this event. They did not answer our calls.
