Spirit blast Sudbury in home opener 5-0

The Saginaw Spirit won their first game of the 2012-13 OHL season by shutting out the Sudbury Wolves 5-0 in the home opener at the Dow Event Center.

Jake Paterson kicked aside all 30 Wolves shots on goal to pick up his first win of the year.

Eric Locke scored two goals and Vincent Trocheck, Andrey Alexeev and Justin Kea added a goal apiece.

The Spirit scored three power play goals on nine opportunities.

Saginaw will host the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Saturday at the Dow with the puck set to drop at 7:11 p.m.
