State officials say changes are being made in response to an audit that raised questions about tool storage, cell inspections and other issues at a prison north of Lansing.
State auditors recently released a 34-page report analyzing certain operations at the Central Michigan prison in Gratiot County.
Auditors say the prison could not account for 58 "dangerous tools" after a tool storage area was disbanded.
The report says the prison didn't ensure that its officers performed and documented all inmate shakedowns and cell searches.
Questions were also raised about the release and return of weapons from the prison arsenal.
The prison can hold more than 2,000 inmates.
The Corrections Department told auditors that it agrees with all recommendations and is complying.
