The Huron County Sheriff's Department and the City of Bad Axe Police arrested a 47-year-old Bad Axe man on drug related charges Friday evening.
They also issued two simultaneous search warrants for illegal drug activity as part of an investigation that focuses on illegal bath salts.
The first search warrant was issued in Verona Township at the Maple Lane Discount Store off of Van Dyke Street. The second search warrant took place at a residence on Beech Street in Bad Axe.
During the first search, police seized evidence that included records, documents, packaging, manufacturing materials, computers, recording equipment, cash and other related materials. However, while attempting to execute the second search warrant, the sheriff's department says officers noticed large quantities of hazardous material. The police officers were forced to back out of the residence because it appeared to be a drug-manufacturing site.
The United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) was summoned and will begin processing the scene once the entire DEA team arrives.
The 47-year-old man is in jail on a $100,000 cash bond for the felony charge of Unlawful Manufacture, Delivery or Possession with Intent to Deliver. Authorities have not released his identity, but the man will be arraigned in the Huron County District Court on Monday.
He was arrested after a traffic stop, just minutes before the search warrants were served.
