State Police move to brand new post in Williams Township

BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

Moving trucks were parked outside the State Police Post in Bay City this weekend. Troopers boxed up nearly 80 years of history as they transition to a brand new post.

Troopers will work out of the new post Monday, but first they had to move everything from evidence to equipment.

The State Police Post in Bay City was built during 1934. A plaque from the old building will be placed inside the new post.

"A lot of records and old history here and back when the post was built, for a number of years upstairs were the actual barracks where the troopers lived," said Trooper John Kellerman.

The new Tri-City post is located near the intersection of U.S. 10 and highway M-47 in Williams Township.

The change is part of the department's regional policing plan, which was first announced in March 2011.

State Police plan to host a grand opening ceremony for the new post but they have not set a date yet.
