The battle over a 55-foot cross in Frankenmuth may not be over.
An out of town group is pushing for its removal. The group, Washington-based Americans United for Separation of Church and State, is willing to sue the city. The lawsuit could go forward provided a resident is willing to be the plaintiff.
City officials announced yesterday that the cross will stay at its current home in Cross Park.
The group sent the city a letter back in August. The letter said the cross violates the separation of church and state in the U.S. Constitution.
Opponents say the cross is a public endorsement of religion, but the city says the cross celebrates its history and culture.
The cross was built in 1976.
