GM moving jobs back to Michigan; expects to hire thousands

PONTIAC, MI (WNEM) -

General Motors' has announced that it is closing its Hydrogen Fuel Cell research facility near Rochester, New York and moving production to Pontiac.

The move affects 220 employees. The majority of those employees will be offered jobs at GM's Powertrain Engineering headquarters in Pontiac.

No word on when the move is expected to take place.

Meanwhile, more than 1,500 skilled trades' jobs are coming to Warren.

General motors' plans to hire the workers to staff a new computer technology center.

The company is moving work that it once had outsourced into technology centers within GM.

Officials say the effort could mean hiring as many as 10,000 people in the next three- to five years.
