SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -
After a few quiet months and few police reports of car larcenies in Saginaw Township, thieves had a busy Monday night and Tuesday morning.
Township Police Lt. Gary Grauf said at least 10 vehicles were entered at eight different locations in both the north and south areas of the township. The thefts occurred between 11:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.
All the cars and trucks had one thing in common, they were unlocked. Worse yet, they all had valuable items inside. At least three GPS units, one laptop computer and a few purses and wallets were taken in the larcenies.
Grauf suspects the thieves traveled in a vehicle as the thefts occurred in the Lathrup Park area, west on Brockway to Weineke. Vehicles at homes along Hemmeter were also targets from State Street north to McCarty.
Saginaw Township police waged a successful campaign to get folks to lock their cars over the summer with billboards and public service announcements. That effort was called "Lock It or Lose It."
