A man has been charged in the theft of a Secret Service rental truck carrying equipment for Vice President Joe Biden's Labor Day visit to Detroit.
Forty-five-year-old Charles Rumbley of Detroit is charged in a federal criminal complaint with theft of government property. He was ordered held Thursday pending a Nov. 9 hearing.
The Associated Press sent messages Friday to federal defenders listed on Rumbley's court file.
The agency has said the U-Haul truck stolen early Sept. 2 outside the Westin Book Cadillac hotel was found the next day in a parking lot about three miles away. Authorities say it contained $150,000 worth of metal detectors for use at the event. The Secret Service has said no weapons were on board.
The Detroit News reported details of the charge Thursday.
