BAY COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -
Bay County Sheriff's deputies were called to the intersection of Cass Avenue and Burns Road in Bay County's Portsmouth Township early Tuesday morning in response to a serious crash.
Deputies said around 3:30 a.m., the driver of a 1996 Chevrolet pick-up involved in the crash went through the intersection traveling south on Burns when he collided with a ditch on Cass. As a result, the driver was fatally injured and his two passengers seriously injured.
Sheriff's deputies identified the man killed in the crash as Peyton Charles Schaefer, 19, of Essexville. Schaefer's passengers, 19-year-old Michael Sebastian Mix, of Bay City, and Joseph James Deladurantaye, 22, of Linwood, were taken to McLaren Hospital in serious condition.
Police reopened the intersection around 9 a.m. and the accident is still under investigation.
It's unknown if the driver or passengers were wearing seatbelts. Deputies said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
