SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -
City leaders are joining forces with community leaders to decrease the amount of gang-related violence in Saginaw.
More than 50 percent of murders in the city of Saginaw are gang-related, according to the Saginaw Police Department.
Saginaw's City Council declared October Anti-gang, Anti-violence month on Monday.
The Honorable M.T. Thompson, a 70th Circuit Court judge, championed the stepped-up effort.
Meanwhile, organizations like Parishioners on Patrol want to remind the public that the fight against violence is every month.
"I am thrilled to see this issue get more attention," Pastor Larry Camel said. "We have been hit with a rash of violence."
On Friday, Camel told TV5 that Parishioners on Patrol has a big announcement to make about the organization.
