High-crime cities to get more state troopers

Posted: Updated:

State police say some cities facing high crime rates will benefit the most from a new wave of recruits being assigned to posts throughout Michigan.

The Flint Journal reports (http://bit.ly/TuOS7F) posts that cover Flint, Pontiac, Detroit and Saginaw will get 62 additional state police troopers between new recruits and transfers of more seasoned officers. Those cities have high violent crime rates and are targeted by Gov. Rick Snyder's public safety efforts.

The agency says Flint, for example, received 15 transfers and will get five of 78 new recruits sworn in Friday after a graduation ceremony in Lansing.

Another state police trooper school will begin Oct. 28.
