SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Operation Reach is a Saginaw-based charitable organization that provides alternative options for at-risk youths.

Recently, the program's director, Noah Bruner, launched a program to help teens who are suspended from school.

"We picked up and drop off their homework for them so they don't get behind," said Bruner.

"We also try and work on their behavior so that they can be more productive when they get back to school," he added.

Bruner said that the program was originally scheduled to launch Nov. 1 because of funding, but one of the teens who frequented his community center had been suspended.

"I decided to start the program early," Bruner explained.

Bruner spends his own money on gas in order to make daily trips to schools.

"We usually call the school and ask what time we can pick up homework for the kids," Bruner said.

Right now, Operation Reach has only one suspended student in the program, but Bruner expects to have at least a few dozen in the next few weeks.

Until then, he said he is trying secure donations in order to prepare for the expected growth.

Operation Reach is currently funded by a Community Development Block Grant Program.
