SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

A new film addressing the violence in Saginaw premiered Friday night.

It's called Saginaw Rising and filmmakers said the nearly two-hour documentary identifies a number of actions that they hope will lead to less violence in the city.

Dr. Ziggy Kozicki and his wife Stephanie spent the last year and a half working on the film.

The filmmakers said it's an honest look at the violence plaguing Saginaw, but said they hope it leads to positive change.

"We have got to do something to not only protect the people who have the least ability to protect themselves, but also the children. We have to create an environment that is safe for everyone," said Ziggy Kozicki.

More than 100 people came out to watch the film.

Filmmakers shot more than 50 hours worth of film and hope to make more documentaries in the future.
