SHIAWASSEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -
Imagine driving home from work and being shot at by a car passing by.
"Satan, I would call him deadly, and I would say don't drive down I-96 until somebody catches him," said Shelley Chuney.
Who is he? The best description is outlined in a police sketch. He's believed to be tied to 22 separate shooting incidents along I-96 and M-52, stretching across Livingston, Oakland, Ingham and Shiawassee Counties.
Police say he's firing bullets randomly at cars while he's driving.
"It's kind of crazy really. Wouldn't have my wife going out there right now. Why go on the highway if you can go on the side roads or whatnot, what are you going to do?" said Dave Exford.
A few of those shootings have occurred along M-52 in Ingham and Shiawassee counties. Victor Simpson manages Cornerstone Grocery and said two victims have told him their stories first-hand.
"This guy's nuts," said Simpson.
One woman said she was on I-96, went to pass a slower car, and a bullet came through the passenger side door and went out the drivers side, narrowly missing her. Another incident happened about a mile from the store.
"She thought he blew a tire. And something hit the side of her car. And then the next morning, she noticed a bullet hole in her hood," said Simpson.
Several law enforcement agencies have created a task force to look for the shooter. They've beefed up patrols. But it's not only police on the look out for this guy.
"If he shoots at the wrong person, he's going to be in trouble, because the boys around here don't play," said Simpson.
"I have my CCW, and if I have the opportunity, I will shoot him, and I will not miss," said Chuney.
They believe the man is working by himself and could be driving a black, four-door sedan. If you have any information about the shootings, police want you to call CrimeStoppers - 1-800-SPEAKUP.
