Man killed, another hospitalized after Clare County crash

CLARE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

One man is dead and another is in the hospital after a crash in Clare County. Police responded to a head-on crash involving two vehicles. One person was trapped inside.

Clare City Police and the Clare County Sheriff's Department responded around 9:30 Friday morning. Both drivers were taken to the Mid Michigan Medical Center.

Farwell resident 67-year-old Walter Burger was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other man 51-year-old Stephen Miller of Farwell is in stable condition. He was transported to another medical center for further treatment.

Investigators believe a Pontiac Montana van, driven by Burger, was traveling westbound on Fifth Street when it collided head on with a Dodge Ram driven by Miller.

The crash remains under investigation by the Clare City Police and Clare County Sheriff Department Accident Investigation –Reconstruction Team. The Clare City Police were assisted by the Clare County Sheriff Department, the Clare Fire Department, and Mobile Medical Response Ambulance Service.
