FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

A 3-year-old little boy is in critical condition. He was badly beaten and investigators believe his own mother may have had something to do with it.

Emergency workers said that when they arrived at a home on East Baltimore in Flint, the child was barely breathing.

They said he had visible bruises on his face and neck.

He was rushed to Hurley Medical Center suffering from what's being described as life-threatening injuries.

The 3-year-old underwent surgery Thursday night.

Police are looking for the boy's mother and her boyfriend in connection to the beating.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said doctors who treated the boy said it's one of the worst cases of child abuse they have ever seen.

Anyone with information is asked to call Flint police or Crimestoppers.
