Voters wait for hours to cast ballots in Mid-Michigan

SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Voters in Mid-Michigan head to the polls in full force on this Election Day.

With state congressional seats, proposals and the office of the presidency up for grabs, voters braved long lines to make their vote count.

"Once I got here and I saw all these people I said, 'whoa it's going to be a good turnout'," said Earnestine Stinson, of Saginaw.

Voters made a mad dash to the polls Tuesday. They waited in long lines to cast their ballots for local races and, what polls show, is one of the tightest races ever for the White House.

"I'm nervous because maybe my candidate won't get in. So, I'm hoping and praying and just trying to get everybody out to vote. Texting and calling come out and vote," said Shanita Taylor.

Some people thought by getting out to vote first thing this morning they'd beat the crowds. When they found long lines, they had to change their plans.

"The line is so packed. I have to come back at lunch," said Tammy Reed.

Reed left the line to get to work, but she admits she wasn't completely surprised by the turnout.

"I knew that America was going to come out and vote, because this election is very important."

Some didn't mind waiting an hour - or two - to make their voices heard.

"This is an opportunity to communicate with some of my neighbors, be happy that everybody is here and let everybody know that you can't stop voting," said Mike Rowland.

Once through the line, people say the voting process went well.

"It was an easy, smooth process," added Taylor.

Many say they felt empowered putting their completed ballot into the voting machine and doing their part to help shape the community and the country.

"I felt real good, especially when it sucked it on in there. It must have liked me," commented Earnestine Stinson.
