Long ballot causes machine problems in Flint

GENESEE COUNTY, MI (AP) -

Flint's election official says some electronic ballot scanners are having problems with a long ballot.

City Clerk Inez Brown tells The Flint Journal that machines broke down Tuesday. Brown says it's "not unreasonable" and says the problems are being fixed.

Flint voters feed the ballot into the machine when they're done voting. Brown says the ballot is 4 inches longer than usual, especially because of six statewide ballot questions.

Wayne State law professor Jocelyn Benson, director of the Michigan Center for Election Law, says there have been dozens of calls about broken machines in the Detroit area.
