CMU professor suspended after child porn discovery

MOUNT PLEASANT, MI (WNEM) -

A Central Michigan University faculty member has been suspended from all duties and placed on leave pending the results of an investigation by law enforcement.

The school announced Thursday that it has suspended the professor and barred him from the campus in Mount Pleasant.

CMU Police Chief Bill Yeagley confirmed to TV5 that the 58-year-old professor was accused Nov. 5 of being in possession of child pornography on a work computer. CMU police then began an investigation into the allegations.

The professor has not been formally charged, but the university said it is cooperating fully with legal authorities, including the Isabella County prosecuting attorney.

CMU Police said in a statement that they have assured university leaders there is nothing to suggest anyone on campus is in any danger.
