Linwood, MI (WNEM) -

Jackie Smith is thinking about the people suffering from Superstorm Sandy - many have lost everything in devastated areas in the northeast part of the United States.

She organized a group of concerned citizens that are collecting donations at Bicentennial Park in the Bay County community of Linwood. Smith says her desire to help those people affected by the storm comes from her grandchildren.

"They sleep in warm beds and they have a table to sit at and eat their dinner. And those people there have nothing. I mean they're devastated. They don't have a home or a bed or a kitchen table to sit at or food to drink," Smith said.

Smith tells WNEM she's grateful for all the donations she's received so far. But she's hoping to fill a truck and a trailer full of supplies for victims of the storm.

"If I have to drive the truck out there myself that's what I'll do. But those things in the truck they're going. We're going to get them there one way or another," Smith said.

The truck still has plenty of space available. Smith says her group needs baby items, water, food, toiletries, and cash donations that will used to pay for the cost of gas. She says even the smallest act of kindness will be greatly appreciated.

"We're willing to accept any and all donations. They need blankets, winter coats, things like that. Go through your cupboards, go through your closets, just bring us what you got we'll take care of the rest," Smith said.

Smith will be collecting donations at Bicentennial Park in Linwood until 9 p.m. Friday. Collections will also take place Saturday Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.  Donations can also be dropped off at the Village Inn in Linwood which is located at 212 West Center Street. Smith is hoping to head east on Monday Nov. 19.
