ARGENTINE TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

A group of local firefighters are making a trip to New York to help out those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Genesee County firefighters received hundreds of items after a local company asked for donations to help their fellow firefighters and families impacted by Hurricane Sandy in New York.

Several fire departments in Genesee County donated gear. Residents donated clothing and food items. Local companies also donated much needed medical supplies.

The 12 firefighters are taking a 24-foot trailer and an 8-foot trailer filled to capacity to help out those in need.

Steve Major is the owner of Arrowhead Police Emergency Vehicle Equipment. He said they wanted to make it easier for those first responders to do their jobs.

"What we are doing is to get the supplies out there to them, so that they are able to work and do their jobs right away so they can out get into the recovery effort," Major said.

The firefighters will be in New York till Sunday, they say they also want to roll up their sleeves and help out on the ground.
