Christmas is coming a little early for some Mid-Michigan troops this year.
"Send Santa to the Troops" held a bowl-a-thon on Saturday to raise money to cover the cost of sending care packages to soldiers stationed overseas.
This is the eighth year of the event and about 45 bowlers took part.
This year, local soldiers will benefit from the care packages.
"These troops that we are supporting this year are actual members of our community - there are friends, our family, our neighbors," organizer Melissa Alex said. "And to come out to support us, to be able to pay for the shipping, to be able to get these care packages for Christmas means a lot to them."
Organizers hope to send 1,200 care packages to the troops this year.
