SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -
With a 55-52 win over rival Grand Valley State on Saturday, the Cardinals clinched a share of the GLIAC North Division Championship.
It wasn't good enough to qualify for the Division 2 Football Championships.
SVSU started the game strong, leading the Lakers 35-7 at the halftime break, but Grand Valley stormed back in the second half to take the lead 52-48 with just over 6 minutes remaining in the game.
With 9 seconds left, SVSU quarterback Jonathan Jennings hit Jeff Janis in the end zone as time expired to give the Cardinals the dramatic victory.
It was the first win for SVSU in the series since 2004.
Jennings finished with 360 yards passing and three touchdowns.
