MT. MORRIS TWP. MI (WNEM) -

As a Mid-Michigan mother clings to life, her attacker remains on the loose.

Ashley Lucier, 25, was beaten and left for dead in a Mt. Morris Township ditch almost two weeks ago. Family members who spoke to TV5 say it's evident somebody wanted her to die along Carpenter Road on Nov. 1.

"Just the way it looked.  When you first saw her, you could tell somebody was trying to kill her," said Tana Crandall, Lucier's aunt.

A jogger out for his morning workout found Lucier's nearly lifeless body in the early hours of the Thursday two weeks ago.  Crandall said it doesn't make much sense why somebody would harm her.  She said the answer lies in the ditch and with Lucier, who right now is in a coma.

"Yes, we are desperate because we'd like to know what happened.  We just can't figure out what's going on with Ashley and we would like to know, and hopefully, she'll come out of this, and tell us," said Crandall.

Detectives with the Mt. Morris Township Police Department tell us the efforts to track down who's responsible for harming Lucier have all resulted in dead ends.

"Just come forward, please come forward, tell us what happened, if you know anything, and if you think you might know something, please come forward too," said Crandall.

Crandall told us the medical bills for Crandall are adding up fast.  The 25-year-old did not have health insurance and has three children at home.

There is a benefit set up at Mid-Michigan Citizen's Banks across our viewing area.  If you can help, you can drop a donation at any of the banks under Lucier's name.
