MIDLAND TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

A family-owned business was destroyed during a late-night fire in Midland Township on Saturday.

Fire officials said they were called out to Eastman Auto off of South Meridian Road shortly before 10 p.m. When they arrived, they said the building was completely engulfed in flames.

Fire officials also said there was a delay in getting the electricity shut off and the live power lines made it difficult to put out the fire.

Flames were still coming from the building early Sunday morning around 12:30 a.m. and Meridian road remained closed until about 3:30 a.m.

John Vove, a longtime employee, said the auto shop had been passed down through the owner's family for three generations and was built in the 1940s.

No one was hurt and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Five agencies responded, including Lee Township and Midland Township.
