A mother charged with abusing her own child is expected back in court on Tuesday.
Prosecutors say 23-year-old Aleesha Wyatt allowed her live-in boyfriend to watch over her son, even after knowing the man had been abusing the boy.
The 3-year-old has been in serious condition at a Flint area hospital since the beating on Nov. 1.
The boy's mother could be the first person charged under Michigan's Dominick's Law.
That law makes it a crime for witnesses to ignore abuse.
If convicted, Wyatt and her boyfriend would face the possibility of life in prison.
